VASCO: Following complaints from the estate officer of INS Gomantak, the South Goa demolition squad on Monday demolished six interconnected structures that were in the survey number 83/1 of Chicalim village and located along the Rajhans Auditorium owned by Indian Navy.
As per information, the demolition was carried out after naval estate officer lodged his complaint before the state administration about the structures alleging that the same were built on the land presently in possession of Indian Navy and having such structures close to the Defence establishment would pose a security threat. Thus the demolition was carried out under strong posse of police protection on Monday morning in presence of officials from Taluka administration.
Meanwhile, Deepak Shah from Chicalim, who claimed that he owns these structures, said that these were built some 38 years ago. He alleged that despite the fact the people were occupying these buildings, the state administration did not issue or serve any demolition notice. He said that when he asked Navy to provide documents or proof certifying that the land belongs to them (the Navy), no such documents were provided and instead his structures were demolished. He, however, said he would not approach the court seeking compensation.
