CURCHOREM: Locals have voiced their concerns over the hazardous condition of the roads due to sewerage work, adding to the state’s poor quality of roads at Curchorem. The haphazard work done by the authorities has resulted in multiple accidents on the Curchorem to Sanguem road. Locals demand the concerned authorities take stringent action.
Curchorem roads are in a pathetic condition due to sewerage work. After the works were completed, PWD workers covered the dug-up road with mud, with no proper levelling. As a result, the upper layer of mud has been washed away by rain and vehicles, creating a massive pothole in the middle of the road. Chambers in Curchorem are overflowing due to rainwater, and numerous potholes have increased on the roads. The rise in road accidents during nighttime due to potholes has left the community in fear and anxiety.
“Every area you visit has a pothole. Not a single part of the road is pothole-free. You find accident cases, whether minor or major, every single day. This month, four accidents were reported due to bad roads. What is the government doing?” lamented Raju Morazkar, a frustrated local.
The department knows the consequences of its actions but remains reluctant and negligent in solving the matter. This behaviour is seen not only in rural areas but in urban areas as well. The audacity of the contractor and workers to do such low-quality work is displayed everywhere, even in government offices and their vicinity.
As the situation continues to deteriorate day by day, the Public Works Department has turned a blind eye to this issue. Locals have urged the government to take strict action and relieve them from this misery.
