PANJIM: Despite the filing of petitions and staging of protests against the hosting of Sunburn in Dhargalim, the Tourism Department has granted in-principle approval to the promoters for hosting the festival. Spacebound Weblabs Pvt Ltd, the organiser of Sunburn had filed the application for permissions on November 13.

The permission has been issued after recommendations of the Empowered Committee for new tourism services in Goa.
It may be recalled that a large section of people including the local MLA from Dhargalim, which is the new venue, have been opposing the hosting of Sunburn in their locality. Three petitions praying before the court to quash the permissions granted by Dhargalim Panchayat to Sunburn and another one pleading against granting permissions to the EDM due to noise pollution issues are currently being heard in the High Court.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte had said that he would commenting only when the panchayat comes to the department.
and had allowed the issue within the panchayat to get it internally cleared.
Sunburn is supposed to be held on December 28, 29 and 30.
