PANJIM: Confident of getting Congress ticket for Panjim, CCP corporator Surendra Furtado on Tuesday said that if he wins the Assembly election he would bring in fund to the tune of almost Rs 1,000 crore to the constituency under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Rural Mission (JNNURM).
Talking to reporters, Furtado said that he is confident of getting the Congress ticket for Panjim and can register a win over the BJP.
“People want a change here and now. I have the capability to bring that change,” he said claiming to bring in funds amounting to Rs 1,000 crores under JNNURM.
Targeting Panjim MLA and leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar over his failure in developing the city, Furtado said ‘he has failed miserably as a leader’.
Furtado, who recently joined the Congress party, is trying hard for the Panjim ticket for the coming assembly elections to contest against Parrikar. He is facing tough competition from yet another Congress ticket aspirant and ex MLA Somnath Zuwarkar.
When asked, Furtado boasted, ‘I am 99.9 percent confident of getting the ticket. Not just leaders here but national Congress leaders are my very good friends’.
Responding to a question, he replied, ‘if the party denies me ticket then there could be other options’. However, he did not make it clear whether he will contest as an independent.
