Corporator Kabir Pinto Makhija informed Commissioner that permissions for holding exhibitions and programmes like Lokotsav, Maha Gyan Yagna, Jain festival were granted by corporation despite his request to stop the same.
Kabir vide his letters dated Jan 6, 9 and 12, had requested not to grant permission for holding any exhibitions, cultural and entertainment programmes at the Parade, football and Gymkhana grounds and Kala Academy and elsewhere within the city as these events are responsible for increase inflow of traffic, increase garbage menace, noise and air pollution.
“Today’s council meeting was important as I wanted Mayor to answer on this issue,” he said adding ‘it was also decided in the past that the exhibition organisers will have to make their own arrangements for disposal of waste generated from the so called commercial activities’.
“These exhibitions are nothing but a nuisance leading to more and more garbage menace as CCP already lacks proper garbage treatment site,” Kabir said.
Kabir received good response from opposition corporators who also demanded ban on such exhibitions and programmes within the city.

The opposition councilors have also submitted memorandum to Mayor Yatin Parekh’s office stating that in addition to the traffic and garbage problems, such frequent exhibitions damage the interests of the traders who do business in the capital city.
Meanwhile, the opposition councilors also raised question over functioning of the civic body as it has failed to provide necessary labourer in different wards.
Mala, ward number 27 corporator Shubham Chodankar pointed out before Commissioner that he has not been provided with labourers in his ward though the ward is gearing up for Mala Jatra on February 2.
“I don’t have a single worker to clean the ward…when I asked Mayor, he said the workers are busy or that he has sent them…but till date I have not managed to get a single labourer,” he said.
Corporators of ward number 24, 25 and 5 also narrated a similar happening.
