Expansion of crematorium cleared

PANJIM: Fiery exchanges which have now come to characterise the CCP corporators meeting, again erupted Friday, with the former mayor and the present incumbent trading charges.
Both were buttressed by their respective panels, but amid the clashes, the minutes of the meeting dated April 25, and standing committee meetings of March 15 and May 6 were confirmed. The meeting also cleared the expansion of the crematorium and the beautification of the gardens, roads etc by GSUDA and GSIDC.
Regarding the report on illegalities in the allotment of shops in the market complex that was supposed to have been submitted by South Goa Collector, the Mayor told the Council that the collector had called him up and promised to give it to him by the Tuesday. The mayor promised to hold a special meeting to discuss the market issue by the second week of July.
The meeting was interspersed by skirmishes between the mayor and former mayor Vaidehi Naik with Naik alleging that the Mayor was not allowing any discussion and Mayor accusing the govt of trying to put pressure on him through the opposition corporators.
