MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) has finally decided to introduce pay parking in its retail market from July 1.
The PDA has also decided to levy parking fee of Rs 2 and Rs 5 on two-wheelers and four-wheelers respectively for vehicular parking in the market.

These decisions were taken at an informal meeting of the PDA presided over by Chairman MLA Rajan Naik and attended by members Rupesh Samant, Raju Shirodkar and MMC Chairperson Arthur D’Silva.
After the meeting, the PDA chairman clarified that the proposed pay parking is intended to bring in traffic discipline in the market and not to generate revenue over parking. “We have no intention to tax the customers doing shopping in the markets. Pay parking would only regulate parking and instil traffic discipline in the market,” he said.
Meanwhile, PDA Member Secretary Rajesh Naik has said that workers engaged in enforcing pay parking would start traffic regulation inside the market immediately. He said today’s informal meeting has also identified the roads within the market complex which will be earmarked for two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking.
