PANJIM: Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) will be soon be undertaking a study for preparing a comprehensive mobility plan for the State and parking master plan for Panjim for which surveys will be conducted across Goa.
“IPSCDL is undertaking a study for Preparation of Comprehensive Mobility Plan for the State of Goa and Parking Master plan for Panjim City and Urban Mass Transit Company Ltd (UMTC) have been appointed as the consultant for the said work. The task of carrying put the survey has been entrusted to Sri Srinivasa Consultancy,” a public notice by IPSCDL states.
It adds that the study involves primary data collection including conducting primary traffic surveys, roadside interviews, traffic volume count and passenger opinion surveys, and extensive household surveys which will help determine the travel patterns and needs of the citizens.
The work to prepare the CMP for Goa and parking master plan for Panjim envisages providing a sustainable regional transport system over a 20 year planning horizon, also in guiding the region to develop transportation network for all modes including pedestrians, cyclists and IPT to achieve consensus and cost-effective accessibility to all people across the State.
It also envisages a study and suggests organisable structures and financial options to implement the plan while studying regional transport linkages with respect to people and freight movement and ensuring optimal utilisation of funds and human resources.
In 2013, the Union Ministry of Urban Development had in principle approved Goa’s desire to have a transport plan and this was indicated in a letter to the State Principal Secretary for preparing the State transport plan.
