PANJIM: Suspended Samajwadi Party MLA Mahendra Singh, who was arrested during a raid on a city hotel last month and released on conditional bail later, turned up for questioning before the Panjim police Monday.
The legislator was summoned to join the investigation into the case in which two other persons ~ Manohar alias Baldev and Sanjay Agarwal are evading police since the crack down on an alleged prostitution racket at Hotel Viva Goa International, Campal, on August 28.
“The two men are untraceable. We had directed Singh to appear before the investigation team to provide their details,” Inspector Rajendra Prabhudesai told Herald. Singh was questioned from about 9 am till 3 pm.
Manohar and Agarwal have meanwhile filed for anticipatory bail before the Additional Sessions Judge at Mapusa, which will come up for hearing Tuesday afternoon.
Prabhudesai, responding to a question said, Singh will be called as and when required.
The MLA, who claims he was ‘fixed’ due to the political rivalry between the BJP and Congress in Goa, said he had responded to an invitation by his ‘good old friend’ Agarwal. Manohar is said to have brought the six girls, to perform before the guests at the party.
Six persons including the legislator were arrested and six girls were apprehended in the raid. After bail, the legislator had flown back to UP only to appear before the police again.
Two of the girls, including one from Chhattisgarh, were earlier apprehended from an alleged prostitution ring at Calangute. The 54 year politician, who seemingly knows all of them, said he was sleeping in the room next to the place where the girls were dancing and that he was completely unaware of the raid when it happened.
