PANJIM: Students of Class V and VI will get their tablets/notebooks only at the end of the academic year with the department saying that the distribution will start only towards the end of March.
The Education Department is procuring around 50,000 tablets from the Goa InfoTech Development Corporation and will only be the distributor.
Speaking to Herald, Deputy Director of Education, Anil Powar said that the distribution will begin towards the middle of April.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had in his Budget speech, said that tablets would be distributed to the students of Classes V and VI along with the e-content compilation which would serve as teaching material for schools and that a budgetary provision of Rs 95 crore had been made.
Pawar denied that there was any delay in distributing the tablets, but said that since it was a new scheme, the logistics would take time to fall in place.
“Government procedures always take time,” Pawar said. The chief minister had also announced that from the academic year 2013-14 other students too would be receiving tablets.
General category students will have to pay only Rs 25 while SC and ST students will have to pay Rs 10 to register for the scheme.
Govt to appoint consultant to facilitate e-learning
PANJIM: The government has floated a tender to appoint a consultant to draw up the e-content as well as e-infrastructure to facilitate e-learning. The consultant will be expected to monitor or create a dedicated data centre for hosting the course content, monitor connectivity issues to all the schools, to implement, review, procure or monitor the minimum hardware already in schools or new hardware to be procured for the implementation of the e-content scheme.
The consultant will also have to shortlist the best service provider in terms of suppliers, vendors, software developers who will install and commission the required software (e-content) on the hardware in the schools and also arrange the training of the teachers. The consultant will also select the best e-content and also submit a detailed project report on the quality of the e-content.
