PANJIM: Mamlatdar Rahul Desai, who was recently arrested by the Special In-vestigation Team (SIT) in land grabbing case, has been suspended pending in-quiry.

Desai, while he was Bardez mamlatdar was named as accused in five land grabbing cases and suspected to be involved in over 20 cases. He was arrested by the SIT probing land grabbing cases on September 30 this year.
Even as the tainted mamlatdar was named as accused in the land grabbing there was no suspension, but on the contrary Desai was transferred as posted as Mormugao Joint Mamlatdar II and III, much to the shock of complainants and their lawyers.
According to the police, Desai had allegedly connived with one of the main ac-cused Royson Rodrigues, a seaman from Siolim in the transfer of land owner-ship rights in a case filed with the SIT.
The Superintendent of Police handling the SIT for land grabbing, Nidhin Valsan informed that police had sent intimation of arrest of Rahul Desai to the Per-sonnel Department as soon as he was arrested and had also mentioned of his subsequent police custody.
