PANJIM: Congress spokesman Sudip Tamhankar has dared the Manohar Parrikar government to arrest him, a day after a complaint of forgery was filed against him at the Panjim police station. In fact Tamhankar filed a complaint against Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, two ministers and a local, with Panjim police station
In fact, he said no party legislators and leaders are afraid of the arrest threats.
“I will not go for anticipatory bail. If the government dares, throw me inside prison. I am not scared to spend a night in prison,” he told a press conference on Wednesday, Pernem-resident Madhu Kanolkar on Tuesday had filed a forgery complaint against the spokesman alleging the documents and signatures, which the latter submitted to the CBI, alleging two BJP ministers alleged involvement in the drug trade, were forged. The Panjim police have registered an FIR against him under various sections of IPC.
The complaint followed Tamhankar’s complaint with the CBI against Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Art & Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar and other BJP leaders alleging their role in the 2010 drug peddler-police-politician nexus case. To support his complaint, he had produced documents wherein some locals allegedly confessed of bribing the BJP to restart beach parties.
Tamhankar alleged that prompt registration of Madhu’s complaint was an attempt to pressurize him for withdrawing the CBI case against the BJP leaders and accused Madhu of impersonation.
“It is pointed out that complainant Madhu Kanolkar who has lodged forgery complaint against me and on basis of which an FIR has been registered, has to be himself investigated for impersonation and forgery/fraud since the name of the original complainant against the said politicians involved in drug trade was Madhukar Khanolkar and not Madhu Kanolkar,” the complaint letter reads.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has come down heavily on the media for giving undue publicity to the Congress leaders in the state who file bogus complaints against his ministers.
Meanwhile, Tamhankar also took a dig at the government for excessive spending on events such as IFFI, Lokotsav while on the other side, mining dependents are facing financial crisis due to the ban of operations activity. He has demanded justification from the chief minister. In addition, he had also asked the government to crackdown on the series of thefts and suicides taking place in the state.
