PONDA: A college student from Durgabhat-Ponda was killed when his two-wheeler was run over by a speeding milk tanker near the Nestle factory at Khursakade in Tisk-Usgao on Monday morning.
The death of Udit Sharma (22) in the road mishap has added to the list of victims either killed or seriously injured in road mishaps in Ponda taluka in the last few days.
According to police reports, the mishap took place at about 9.30 am when the speeding Maharashtra-registered milk tanker knocked down the scooter ridden by Udit Sharma, a second year BCA student of GVM College.
Police said the tanker was proceeding towards the Kundaim Industrial Estate, while Sharma was proceeding to his father’s transport office near the MRF factory at Usgao.
Sharma was killed on the spot, while the scooter was dragged under the rear wheels of the tanker to some distance and later was engulfed in flames. The
tanker, however, escaped the flames as the burning scooter got separated from the former.
The tanker driver fled from the site, but was later nabbed by the Ponda police at Anmod Ghat while he was trying to escape from the State.
