Tarpaulin sheets placed on Margao court roof blown with the wind

MARGAO: The tarpaulin sheets that were placed on top of the Civil and Criminal Court building at Margao fell off on Tuesday due to the gutsy winds and rain.

The tarpaulin sheets were placed as a temporary measure to stop the leaking roof. However, there was a major problem for the authorities to try and fix this issue that occurred on Tuesday.

While the fire brigade was called to assist, they faced great difficulty as they could not park the truck with the ladder in front of the court as it was blocking the traffic and that the road is used by hundreds of vehicles every passing hour.

Margao Fire Station Officer Gill De Souza explained that they had asked the Traffic Police to work out a traffic diversion to help them park their truck near the court and put the ladder up so that the personnel could reach the roof.

It may be recalled that there have been major protests over the conditions of the Civil Court and the leaking roof.

The South Goa Advocates Association had complained about this issue not just on their behalf but also on behalf of the public while the PWD Minister had also personally inspected the court premises.

Directions had also been issued by the Goa Bench of High Court of Bombay at Goa on this issue as well. This had led the government officials carrying out further inspections and also giving assurances of carrying out and completing the requisite repair work as soon as possible.
