CANACONA: Furious over the food-poisoning incident at Shri Mallikarjun Vidyalaya, Canacona MLA and Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar lashed out at the previous Congress government for the incident.
Addressing a press conference at CHC in the presence of South Goa Collector N D Agrawal, Tawadkar, however, reiterated that the mid-day meal scheme is a very good concept for the betterment of school students.
“However, incidents like the one at Shri Mallikarjun Vidyalaya are a blot on the scheme, but we should take utmost care that such incidents do not occur again,” stated Tawadkar.
“The previous Congress government needs to be blamed for the food poisoning at Shri Mallikarjun School. Despite being aware that this particular mid-day meal supplier (Omkar Mahila Mandal) was linked to at least 1-2 similar incidents in the past, their contract was renewed by the Congress government,” said the minister.
Responding to demands by parents to abolish the scheme, Tawadkar replied: “There is nothing wrong with the scheme. The scheme should continue as it is a very good concept to take care of several undernourished children.”
