Vasco: Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar on Sunday claimed that he was ready to go to jail, if the decision to impose house tax on illegal structures in Sancoale is illegal.
Borkar was addressing a public meeting organized by his supporters at Birla Zuarinagar to kick start election campaign for the forthcoming assembly polls.
“Recently one aspiring candidate from Cortalim constituency made allegations against me that I have been fooling innocent Zuarinagar slum residents in the name of imposing house tax on illegal structures in Sancoale. However, I want to clarify that if this decision is proved illegal, then, I am ready to go to jail, not once but ten times,” he said.
He said that imposing house tax on illegal structures is first step towards regularisation of structures and in the second phase they would also regularise all illegal structures through Sancolae comunidade. “All the slum dwellers have to do is to pay market rate for the land and their illegal structures will surely be regularized,” he assured.
Promising to eliminate goondaism at Zuarinagar slums, he said, “Goondaism is affecting everyone residing here. In last five years, gambling and other illegal activities in Zuarinagar has increased manifolds, and the local youth are getting addicted to such menace. However, I promise that after 2017 assembly polls, goondaism will be completely eliminated.”
He also assured to take up pending developments including market complex and primary health centre.
