Taxi unions, panchayat to hold joint meeting in Varca

The sarpanch, hoteliers and two representatives of the taxi drivers' association union of each hotel have asked to attend meet on June 15 at 11 am

MARGAO: The Varca Panchayat has called a joint meeting of star hotels and their taxi unions of Varca after the Tourist Taxi Association of Varca requested it to do so. The meeting has been called over the continued problems between taxi owners and Goa Miles Taxi services. The meeting is on June 15.
The local taxi drivers and the Goa Miles Taxi App cabs are at loggerheads over business. The Varca panchayat in a letter to the star hotels has said that the taxi owners are feeling that app-based services such as ‘GOA MILES’ are a hindrance to their business and the hoteliers should not support these taxi providers.
The Varca Panchayat further informs that there are many taxi operators who have put in their hard earned money or borrowed from banks to buy a taxi for their livelihood and are in this business since last many years.
The Varca Panchayat has become a middleman in finding an amicable and lasting solution. The union (Taxi Drivers Association in Varca) has requested the panchayat to convene a meeting along with panchayat members. The sarpanch, hoteliers and two representatives of the taxi drivers’ association of each hotel have been called on the June 15 at 11:00 am in the office of V.P Varca.
