MAPUSA: A team of Town and Country Planning official along with Assagao Panchayat held a joint inspection on Monday of spring at Dattatray Avdumbar Devasthan Valwado Assagao after a complaint was filed by the devasthan committee.
The committee had filed a complaint stating that the a 14 villa project coming up next to the spring will pollute the spring water which is used for consumption as well as for Devasthan ceremony.
Along with TCP and Panchayat, the Devasthan had also written to the Pollution Control Board, Health department and other concerned authorities.
The Committee informed that the Health and Pollution Control Boards have already inspected the site while inspection by TCP was delayed.
During the inspection, it was learnt that the years old spring was no where shown on the site plan.
Locals who were also present during the inspection claimed that the spring water is consumed during the monsoon as well as when the PWD water supply is affected.
They also claimed that the spring site is used for the immersion of Ganesh idols besides there is well located next to the spring.
Meanwhile, the TCP officials informed that they will stop the ongoing construction work while further action will be initiated based on Pollution Control Board report. Local MLA Vinod Palyekar was also present during the inspection.
