Chief Town Planner ST Putturaju has decided to direct its South Goa district office to conduct a detailed inquiry into the alleged land grab at Pedamol, where over 200 illegal constructions have come up without any sale deed to the land.
“I will be directing my South Goa office to submit an inquiry report into the issue for necessary action. Will ask the office to also undertake a site inspection and get details from the South Goa Administrator of Comunidades,” Putturaju told Herald on Thursday.
“If the constructions are found in violation of the Town and Country Planning Act, then the structures will be demolished. Comunidade land cannot be illegally encroached upon,” the Chief Town Planner added.
Herald exposed how land at Pedamol was taken up for constructing houses in a no development, no settlement zone. There are 200 houses built in violation of all norms, on land of Shirvoi Comunidade, in Pedamol having no documents. Over the last six years, houses have been constructed, almost entirely by migrants. Some people here are from Margao Monte hill and rest from Karwar, Kumta, Bhatkal and other areas.
The South Goa Administrator of Comunidades, acting on a 2012 complaint of land grab at Pedamol, has recommenced hearings in 97 cases of illegal construction. The Collector has ordered the Comunidade Administrator to hasten the process.
