MAPUSA: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar stated that the duty of the teacher is to shape the future of the students, provide guidance and preach them to make them good citizens of the country.
Parsekar was speaking after releasing the handbook ‘Administrative Guidelines To Schools’ at a programme organised by Zonal Level School Complex Committee (ZLSCC) at Mapusa.
“The teacher needs to be a good counsellor and should keep a watch on behavioural attitudes of the students to ensure that he does not acquire bad habits. The teacher who himself remains a student throughout his career can become an ideal teacher,” said Parsekar.
Parsekar further said most of the teachers land into this profession by accident. “Teaching is a noble profession and hence teacher should act judiciously and set precedence for others. The teachers are well paid in Goa and hence there are lot of expectations from them,” added Parsekar.
Goa Education Development Corporation Chairman Sripad Patnekar said the incidents of sexual harassment, sexual abuse of students and suicides by students are on the rise in Goa. “Hence, the teachers should pay attention to emotional quotient and physical development of the students apart from intelligence quotient. Stress should be given on value-based education,” said Patnekar.
Director of Education Gajanan Bhat and Chairman of Goa Board J R Rebello also spoke on the occasion.
Chairman of ZLSCC and Deputy Director of Education, North Educational Zone Shailesh R Sinai Zigade spoke on salient features of the hand book ‘Administrative Guidelines to Schools’.
Vice chairman of ZLSCC Sudan Barve welcomed the gathering, while Dayanand Mandrekar proposed the vote of thanks.
