Says one player an exception

MARGAO: Saying the government was committed to upgrade football grounds and training facilities in the State, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday said there’s no point in having imported players in a Goan team, asserting there ought to be teams with only Goan players.
During an informal chat with the media after the football finals at Navelim, Parrikar said there should be teams with Goan players only. “What is the point in having imported players? One player can be an exception if it is intended to make a difference to the team. But if you have six players, that’s not a Goan team,” Parrikar said.
He pointed out that his government would upgrade 5-6 football grounds as part of the Lusofonia Games infrastructure development, adding that the government would also put in place training facilities for footballers.
When newsmen drew his attention to the absence of development in Navelim constituency, Parrikar said the previous MLA had done a lot of confusion in Navelim. “We have to now build up again as engineers as they are slightly working in a damaged area,” he said.
When asked what action the government has initiated against former PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, the Chief Minister said that action has already been initiated against the former minister by the court.
