PONDA: Goa Sena on Thursday stated that MGP should withdraw its support to the government, if it fails to withdraw the tenancy amendment.
Addressing a news conference at Ponda, Goa Sena Convenor Ashok Naik and Adv Varad Mardolkar said a lot of people all over the State are opposing the tenancy amendment, fearing that it will affect poor tenants, as government introduced sunset clause and handed over the cases from Mamlatdar court to civil court.
Adv Mardolkar said since this law was introduced by then MGP government in 1964 and later amendment in 1975, it is the responsibility of the MGP to see that people get justice. He appealed for support from NGOs in Goa, who are conducting meetings, creating awareness about the amendment.
He said Ponda MlA Lavu Mamledar also feared that the tenants will be affected due to the amendment. “Further, Minister Deepak Dhavalikar also expressed views that it will affect the tenants. If he really feels that this amendment is going to do injustice, then this party should give a deadline to the government to withdraw the amendment and in case government is not ready, then they should withdraw its support to the government,” stated Adv Mardolkar.
