MARGAO: The Goa Sewerage & Infrastructural Development Corporation has floated a tender to build a 20 MLD Sewage treatment plant at an estimated cost of Rs 41 crore at the existing plant site at Sirvodem.
This new plant will be in addition to the 7.5 MLD STP planned at the site under the JICA project. The new plant is not only expected to treat sewage received at the site, but is also expected to treat sewage waste discharge flowing in the Salpem lake via the water nullahs. Goa Sewerage corporation Managing Director Arvind Patil told Herald that the new state-of-the-plant will be completed within a period of one year. “After the new 20 MLD plant is commissioned, we will discard the existing 7.5 MLD. JICA has also planned to set up a 7.5 MLD plant at the site”, he said.
Replying to a question, Patil said the new Plant will treat sewage discharged in the Salpem lake. “The waste water discharged in the lake and nullahs will be pumped in the new plant for treatment before the water is released in the river”, he added.
