Laxmikant Parsekar, Health Minister, MLA Mandrem
While Rajendra Arkelar is Manohar Parrikar’s personal choice (though he considered briefly in bringing in a trusted non-politician), Parsekar, seems to be in front but only just. This flip happened late afternoon on Thursday. Parsekar, a teacher by profession has been heading the State unit. He was president from May 2000 to 2003 and 2010 to 2012. He won elections in 2007 and 2012. He has been under a cloud for his land purchases around the proposed Mopa airport as well as for his alleged role in promoting equipment suppliers in GMC and the Goa Dental College.
Rajendra Arlekar, Speaker, MLA Pernem
He indicated to Herald late Thursday that it was between him and Parsekar admitting that the Health Minister was ahead. He was the first full time activist of the RSS from Goa. He joined BJP in 1989 and has held various posts including that of the South Goa District President and General Secretary. He was elected to the Assembly from Vasco in 2002 but was disqualified six months before the next election for holding an office of profit. In 2012, he returned to the Assembly from Pernem constituency. He is under a cloud for allegedly having disproportionate assets.
