Concerns have surfaced over the continued non-utilisation of a football ground developed under the Smart City Mission opposite Bal Bhavan in Campal, Panaji, despite the project having been completed nearly three years ago.
Raising the issue, CCP Ward 17 Councillor Jack Sukhija questioned why the state-of-the-art sports facility has not been opened for regular public use, even after substantial public funds were invested in its development.

According to Sukhija, the football ground, spread across approximately 40,000 square metres, has remained inaccessible to local players and residents since its completion, depriving the community of a valuable recreational and sporting asset.
Speaking to the media, the councillor expressed concern over the prolonged delay and called for clarity from the authorities regarding the reasons for keeping the facility closed. He stressed that public infrastructure created under the Smart City Mission should be made available to citizens without unnecessary delays.
The issue has renewed calls for the timely operationalisation of completed public projects, with residents and sports enthusiasts hoping that the football ground will soon be opened to encourage grassroots sports and provide much-needed recreational space in the capital city.
