The inquiry into the complaint filed by the family of a 22-year-old Mapusa youth who died by suicide has gathered pace, with Superintendent of Police Vishwesh Karpe visiting the Mapusa Police Station on Monday to examine details related to the case.
Karpe, who was appointed by the government to conduct the inquiry, is understood to have sought comprehensive information regarding the incident, particularly in light of allegations made by the deceased’s family against police personnel attached to the Mapusa Police Station.

According to sources, CCTV footage from the police station is expected to play a crucial role in the inquiry. The investigating officer has also reportedly called for all records and documents connected with the case for detailed examination.
The youth had earlier been booked for allegedly dumping garbage along a roadside, following which a video related to the incident circulated widely on social media.
Family members have alleged that the youth experienced trauma and harassment by police personnel and have demanded justice. They had initially refused to accept the body after his death.
Subsequently, the youth’s mother submitted a written complaint to the North Goa Superintendent of Police, seeking the registration of a case against the police inspector and sub-inspector who handled the matter, as well as against the individual who recorded the viral video.
The inquiry is expected to examine the sequence of events and determine whether any lapses or misconduct occurred during the handling of the case.
