The Kala Academy complex will remain closed from August 1 to facilitate corrective repairs after an inspection report by IIT Madras identified 18 major defects in the recently completed renovation work.
Acting on the findings, the Kala Academy Task Force has decided to undertake extensive rectification work to address the structural and technical deficiencies highlighted in the report. The move comes amid growing concerns over the quality of the renovation project.

The Task Force has also called for accountability from the contractor responsible for the renovation and has recommended the recovery of costs, alleging that nearly 80 per cent of the project expenditure has effectively been wasted due to poor execution and defective work.
Members of the panel stressed the need to safeguard public funds and ensure that those responsible for the alleged lapses are held accountable. The corrective measures are expected to restore the facility to the required standards before it is reopened to the public.
Meanwhile, discussions regarding the renovation of the Open Air Auditorium are still pending, with a final decision yet to be taken by the authorities.
