A victim of burglary in the city here have refused to lodge a formal police complaint as his previous complaint of theft remains undetected till date.
When Suresh Purohit opened his mobile phone shop near New Margao here this morning at 9 am, he found to his utter shock that the premises, was burgled. Realisation later dawned on him that the miscreants effected entry into the shop by removing the roof tiles and damaging the false ceiling. Goods worth Rs 18,000 were lifted away from the shop, he claimed.
As usual, Purohit visited the Margao police station and intimated the cops over the burglary. Police, however, said they received no complaint from the shop owner and feigned ignorance about the burglary.
When newsmen questioned Purohit why he has refused to lodge a formal police complaint, he said he refused to complaint since his previous complaint of theft in his shop remains undetected till date.
Many questions, however, remain unanswered. If Purohit was not interested in lodging a complaint, why did to go to the police station in the first place. Or, is it that the men-in-uniform dissuaded him to lodge the complaint by discouraging him that he would have make rounds in the corridors of the court.
In the past too, the Margao police had discouraged many a victim from lodging police complaints to protect the battered image of the police force.
