PANJIM: The Traffic Cell has announced diversion and changes to the flow of traffic in Panjim for Carnival on Saturday. The Carnival floats will be lined up on the Ribandar Causeway, from Divja Circle to Ribandar-Merces junction. As per the scheduled plan, the floats will be allowed to move towards the starting point at Old Secretariat from 2:30pm while the actual parade will start at 3 pm.
The floats will culminate at Kala Academy and all the floats will thereafter be parked at Gymkhana Ground, Campal. In view of this, the Panjim traffic cell has made the following arrangements till the completion of the parade in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Float movement
Ribandar causeway from Divja Circle to Ribandar-Merces bypass junction will be closed for general traffic from 1 pm 4 pm after all the floats have crossed the Divja Circle.
Vehicles proceeding towards Ribandar-Old Goa from Panjim will be diverted towards KTC Circle-Merces Circle-Ribandar-Merces junction to come to Ribandar Causeway and proceed further to their destination till the floats cross Divja Circle.
Traffic from Ribandar side coming to Panjim will be diverted at Ribandar Patto to come up to Chimbel junction and proceed to Panjim via NH 4A.
From 2.30 pm all floats will be allowed to come upto the starting point at old Secretariat via DBB Marg on river side lane.
The floats will culminate near Kala Academy, Campal and thereafter will be parked at Babdodkar Football Ground and remain till further instructions from the Traffic Police.
No floats will be allowed to enter the city via Rua de Ourem road after the floats parade has started.
Incoming Traffic
The incoming traffic to the city will be diverted at Goa Konkani Academy tri-junction to proceed via old Patto Bridge-Joao Castro Road-Jose Falcao Road-Church Square to reach their respective destinations.
Vehicles coming from new Mandovi Bridge and from Bambolim side to enter the City will not be allowed to enter via Divja Circle. They will be diverted to enter via Konkani Academy tri-junction – Old Patto Bridge.
Once the float parade begins no city buses will be allowed to ply in either direction till the float parade is over.
Outgoing Traffic
The outgoing traffic from Miramar side will take right turn from Campal Ganesh to proceed via Fire Brigade Junction – St Inez Junction – Caculo Island – M G Road/18th June Road – Hindu Pharmacy road – Casa International – Match Corner – Behind Secretariat – New Patto Bridge (presently used for incoming) – Divja Circle – KTC/Kingfisher circle.
Traffic coming from Rua-de-Ourem on reaching near Hotel Sona will not be allowed to take right turn. This traffic will be diverted to take left turn and then right turn near Hotel Vihar and exit via new Patto Bridge.
In view of ban of entry of vehicles into the city, no heavy/commercial vehicles will be allowed to enter the city. Similarly the heavy and other commercial vehicles including all tourist buses coming from Dona Paula will not be allowed beyond Miramar Circle after 2 pm.
Parking Zones
All vehicles coming from North Goa to witness Carnival parade will be parked at EDC Plaza near KTC bus stand.
All vehicles coming from South Goa to witness the floats parade will be asked to take road via GMC- Goa University and park their vehicles at Campal Parade Ground.
No Parking Zones
Vehicles will not be allowed to park on Jose Falcao Road, Joao Castro Road, Match Corner to Casa International (MG Road), Caculo Island to St Inez junction and KTC Circle to Divja Circle.
