BELGAUM: With a surge in the number of Goans and other tourists visiting Belgaum during Ganesh festival, the Belgaum District police have made special traffic and security arrangements in Belgaum from Wednesday morning.
In a press note, the Traffic Police has informed Goans visiting Belgaum that parking of vehicles will not be allowed in any part of the city area from 8 am on Wednesday till Thursday morning. This restriction applies in Bhave Chowk, Kambli Khoot, Maruti Galli, Kirloskar Road, Ramdev Galli, Samadevi Galli, Ramling Khind Galli, Tahshildar Galli, Patil Galli, Bank of India and SPM Road.
Goans visiting Belgaum can park vehicles at the Deputy Commissioner office premises, Bhartesh School, Sardar High School ground (opposite Hotel Sanman), city police lines and Bogarves area. Traffic will be also diverted from various routes instead of the regular routes.
Meanwhile as preventive measures, stringent security measures have been initiated by the police. SP Dr Chandragupta said in addition to himself, five Additional SPs, 22 DySPs, 48 CPIs, 174 PSIs, 249 ASIs, 3,792 constables, besides 25 platoons each of Karnataka State Reserve Police and District Armed Reserved forces and two platoons of Rapid Action Force will be deployed in the city and other parts of the district.
