PORVORIM: Penha de France Panchayat has resolved not to issue permission for any exhibition on the ground near Maruti temple in the future.
Speaking to media, Penha de France Sarpanch Blanch D’Souza said they had issued NOC to hold an exhibition at the ground near Maruti temple from September 19 to 21, as the panchayat secretary had stated that Goa Housing Board (GHB) had already given an NOC to the organizers.
“However, after going through the relevant papers, we came to know that GHB had not issued the NOC and the panchayat was misled by the panchayat secretary,” alleged the sarpanch.
“Following an objection from Nehru Nagar Residents Association, the panchayat decided to revoke the NOC given to the organizers,” said D’Souza.
“However, the Nehru Nagar Residents Association in its letter dated September 15 stated that since this exhibition is only for three days and the organizers have made all the arrangements, they would withdraw the complaint. But they insisted that the panchayat should not issue such permission to any exhibition henceforth. Hence, the panchayat has decided not to revoke the NOC,” said the sarpanch.
Deputy Sarpanch Gajanan Halarnker alleged that the panchayat secretary, instead of guiding the panchayat in administrative matters, had misled them in the matter and hence they have decided to request the Directorate of Panchayat to transfer him.
“The panchayat gave NOC to the organizers to hold the exhibition in good faith,” he said.
Meanwhile, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte accused the GHB of keeping him in the dark regarding the exhibition.
“I am with the sentiments of the residents of Porvorim and henceforth I will not allow any exhibition on the ground which has been earmarked for sports activities and a Jogger’s Park,” stated Khaunte.
