MARGAO: Traffic arrangements during the FIFA U-17 World Cup matches in Goa has been notified to all the authorities concerned.
In an order issued by the South Goa District Magistrate, the movement and entry of heavy traffic towards Margao will be restricted during the days of the FIFA under 17 matches at Fatorda stadium between 2 pm and 10 pm.
In an order under Section 115 and 116 of the Motor Vehicle Act issued by the South Goa District Magistrate instructions are issued to all the government offices more so to those concerned with traffic to “temporarily ban/restrict the movement of heavy vehicles along NH-17/NH-17B, State Highway-5 and other roads leading towards Margao city for ensuring orderly traffic movement, smooth passage to carcades, players, coaches and VIPs, which would otherwise create major traffic congestion and cause inconvenience to the FIFA officials, players and spectators on the match day.”
As per the order, heavy vehicles will not be allowed except vehicles transporting essential goods from 2 pm to 10 pm on 7th, 10th, 13th, 17th and 21st of this month.
All heavy vehicles coming from Karnataka will be stopped at the border check post at Polem; heavy vehicles coming from Vasco/Birla, Titan junction towards Margao will be stopped 100 Mts before Birla/Titan junction. All heavy vehicles coming from Ponda towards Margao will be stopped at Khandepar-Kurti and Dhavali bypass and no entry or stopping of heavy vehicles will be allowed on Margao eastern bypass road between 2 pm till 10 pm on match days said the circular.
