MARGAO: A huge banyan tree came crashing down on the road at Assolna market in the wee hours of Monday blocking the Assolna-Cuncolim road and damaging electric poles.
The incident is believed to have occurred at around 6.15 am when the tree crashed on the road. Fortunately, no one was around the market area at the time of the incident. A local milk seller, who normally sells milk under the tree around the same time, was conspicuous by his absence today as the milk van reportedly broke down on the way.
Fire services were called to clear the road for traffic. Power department officials were at work to restore electricity since the tree had damaged electric poles in the area.
