PONDA: A truck broke down while trying to make an illegal U-turn on Curti-Copperwada causing significant traffic congestion on NH 66 at Kerya-Khandepar on Tuesday morning.
The vehicle, stuck in the middle of the road, blocked the two-lane road leading towards Khandepar, resulting in long queues of vehicles and delays for commuters headed to work.
Locals pointed out that there is neither an underpass nor a median gap at the Copperwada junction, leading to unsafe conditions. Vehicles often make unauthorised U-turns to access internal roads at Copperwada, which frequently leads to accidents. Tuesday’s breakdown further highlighted the risks associated with the current setup.
Residents are calling for the construction of an underpass at the Copperwada junction to improve safety and traffic flow. They argue that the absence of a median gap or underpass poses a danger to both highway commuters and local residents, especially when vehicles make sudden U-turns. The locals have urged the authorities to address this issue promptly to prevent future incidents.
