PERNEM: With the proposed electronic city, multi-speciality 100-bed hospital and expansion of IDC of Tuem, the local panchayat wants an independent garbage treatment plant to tackle the present and future garbage problem.
Tuem Sarpanch Nilesh Kandolkar informed that in Regional Plan 2011, Survey No. 81/0 admeasuring of around 65,000 sq mts of land was marked for garbage management site, but later it was declined on ground that the plot had no proper access. However, the same plot was later acquired by the IT Department for electronic city.
Kandolkar opined that with the increasing garbage problem in the village and taking into consideration the future development of the village with the proposed electronic city project, expansion of IDC and multi-speciality hospital of 100 beds, which is nearing completion, the village needs an independent garbage plant on par with Saligao garbage plant.
“The panchayat is already facing problem with garbage collection and disposal, because at present there is a Community Health Centre and Industrial Estate which generate huge amount of garbage. The panchayat has already written to the chief minister, the Mandrem MLA, the panchayat minister and the Directorate of Information Technology to intervene in the matter since the access road to this plot is now made while the road for electronic city was being constructed,” he said.
