PORVORIM: Acting swiftly, Mapusa Police arrested two non-Goan youth on charges of molesting a schoolgirl at Tivim on Friday evening.
Following a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother, police managed to get the registration number of the goods rickshaw and located the owner of the vehicle. The owner divulged the names of the two youth who had been employed to operate his goods rickshaw.
Acting on the information, police first arrested Prakash Gupta (21), a native of Jharkhand but residing at Khorlim, from his house on Friday night.
During interrogation, Gupta revealed the residential address of his colleague, Ketan Matondkar (25) and a police team rushed to Satarda-Maharashtra later at night and nabbed him at his residence.
The two youth have been arrested on a number of charges, including wrongful restraint (Sec. 341), assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty (Sec. 354), voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means (Sec. 324), mischief causing damage (Sec. 427), criminal intimidation (Sec. 506) and gesture/act intending to insult the modesty of a woman (Sec. 509), read with 34 IPC, Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act 2003 and Section 8 of POCSO Act 2012.
The accused were produced before the Mapusa JMFC on Saturday and were remanded to police custody for seven days.
In her complaint, the girl’s mother told police that the two accused had outraged her modesty, besides tearing off the pages from her notebooks and calendar, and threatening her with dire consequences by showing a knife. The mother also stated that her daughter had sustained injuries while she escaped from the clutches of the accused.
