Manisha Mayekar and Cosme Martins were elected unopposed as sarpanch and deputy sarpanch of Ucassaim-Paliem-Punola Panchayat.
It may be recalled that the post of sarpanch had fallen vacant after former sarpanch Deepali Kudnekar was voted out of power in a no-confidence motion passed against her on July 30. Later, former deputy sarpanch Prakash Bandekar had submitted his resignation.
The Block Development Officer had convened a special meeting on September 3 in the panchayat office to fill the vacant posts.
Manisha Mayekar’s candidature was proposed by Elisa D’Sousa and seconded by Cosme Martins, while Cosme Martins candidature was proposed by Nitesh Gadekar and seconded by Manisha Mayekar.
Since only one nomination was received for each of the posts, Presiding Officer S V Naik deputed by Block Development Office, Mapusa, to conduct the election declared Mayekar and Martins elected unopposed.
Panchayat Secretary Subhash Kamli assisted S V Naik to conduct the election.
