OLD GOA: Stating that food articles which do not carry any label declarations could be harmful to the health of the consumer, FDA Director Salim Veljee has appealed to the public not to purchase such food articles.
“The quality of any unlabelled food items cannot be vouched for and it can prove harmful to the consumer’s health,” Veljee stated and added that the public has a major role to play if they want to stop such articles from flooding the market. Displaying a packet of farsan pipes (kurkurim) without any label, Veljee said that the same is very harmful and should be avoided.
“If the consumers stop buying such products keeping in mind their own safety, then the units will be forced not to manufacture such products,” he opined.
