UP quartet wanted for thefts in Ratnagiri nabbed at Calangute

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the anti-social elements had come down to Goa on Saturday afternoon and were likely to commit crimes here.

MAPUSA: The Calangute Police on Saturday nabbed four accused namely Md Sofiyan, Firoz Alam, M D Azruddin and Faizan Ali, all natives of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and wanted in theft cases by Ratnagiri Police.

The Calangute Police were informed by their Ratnagiri counterparts that the quartet was involved in four theft cases and were now lingering around in the coastal belt.

Based on the information, a team was formed, CCTV footages and photographs were scanned and a combing operation was launched. The Calangute Police first nabbed three accused near the beach while the fourth was picked up from a lodge.

These accused persons are suspected to have been involved in many such cases in different States including Maharashtra and UP.

Head Constable Vidhya Amonkar, PC Mahendra Chari, Rupesh Salgaonkar, Smital Bandekar, Pritesh Kinlekar, Ganpat Tiloji and Vijay Naik were part of the team that helped nab the gang.
