The government will relax the upper age of entry into the police force to 28 years for recruitment of constables during the next recruitment process, which will begin in a month’s time.
Chief Minister Dr Parmod Sawant, who holds the Home portfolio, said there are 1,780 posts of constables vacant. “Out of these for recruitment of 1,300 posts, which will begin within a month, one time age relaxation from 24 years to 28 years will be provided. There are many who wished to be in the police force but did not get selected earlier and therefore to give them an opportunity we will provide a one time age relaxation,” he stated.
Responding to apprehensions expressed over the availability of drugs around campuses, Sawant said “We need to revamp the ANC and post good officers and there will be no compromise in this department. I am committed and will not allow any nonsense in the ANC. The department is functioning in the desired way, however, if required then the whole department will be revamped.”
He requested all, including headmasters of schools, to file complaints with him assuring that action will be taken.
He also said that the demand for new police stations is not an immediate requirement. He said, “The police station’s demand would be based on the area and the number of crimes.”
Responding to the point raised by Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar that the Quepem and Sanguem police station buildings are in dilapidated conditions, he said the police stations will be reconstructed.
Further responding to allegations of harassment of tourists arriving with their vehicles, he said, “A system will be considered to allow vehicles entering the State with a sticker after having proved all their credentials so that they are not harassed inside the State while they are in Goa.”
Sawant said there is an increase in the number of complaints in cyber crime wherein people have been duped in online transactions and people are taken on a ride by asking them for ATM pins.
