Vasco ruling member alleges step-motherly treatment of ward

VASCO: Embarrassing the ruling group in the Mormugao Municipal Council, ruling councillor Krishana (Daji) Salkar has alleged step motherly treatment of his ward by the municipal authorities.

Addressing newsmen in Vasco, Salkar said that he had complained to the council before the monsoons that despite there being an increase in dengue cases in his ware, fogging and spraying of chemicals was not undertaken properly and the spread of dengue was due to failure in creating awareness among the residents.
He said that he had even requested the chairperson and chief officer to take preventive measures against the spread of dengue fever in Vasco city. However, the request was not heeded to, he regretted.
Therefore, he said, he is carrying out fogging in his ward with the help of private funding.
“Though I am a part of the ruling group, yet I am treated like an opposition councillor. This is unfair. So many times I have requested the chairperson to provide me labourers, fogging machines to prevent dengue fever, but the MMC is in no mood to help me, I don’t know why,” Salkar wondered.
Meanwhile, Chairperson Deepak Naik refuting the allegations, said, “When it comes to development, we do not discriminate between ruling and opposition. Now with regards to Vasco city, MMC has been giving special attention to this ward. Also with regards to dengue, before Saptah festival and even after that we had done fogging all over the city but still the councillor is lying only because he wants to contest the forthcoming assembly elections.”
“I feel that Salkar is actually concentrating on other wards, abandoning his own,” Naik said.
