VASCO: To avoid the late night Shigmo parade in the port town, the Vasco Shigmo festival will commence at 5 pm on March 13.
Addressing a news conference, Vasco Shigmo Ustav Nagrik Committee (VSUNC) President Shekar Khadapkar said the Shigmo festivities will begin on March 6, with the ceremonial offering of the Shreefal at Lord Damodar temple in Vasco.
“This year, the Romtomel float will start from St Andrew’s Church Square, Vasco, by 5 pm on March 13, followed by the ‘Chitra Rath’ float. This arrangement has been made so that the entire float parade can be over by 11 pm,” said Khadapkar.
Khadapkar added that winners in various categories will be awarded cash prizes, besides other consolation prizes in cash.
VSUNC Treasurer, Manish Arolkar, stated that all programmes during the Shigmo festivities will be held in front of the municipal council building, while the float parade will be held near the Vasco rickshaw stand on March 13.
VSUNC Secretary Nitin Chopedkar, Vice President Pratap Gaonkar, Umesh Gawas and Vishal Surlekar also spoke at the news conference.
