CUNCOLIM: Three brothers Shane Fernandes, Randon FernandeS and Alrid Fernandes from Velim were arrested by Cuncolim police on Wednesday for stabbing Velim sarpanch and President of Boat Owners Association, Savio D’Silva along with Mowin Fernandes and Derrick Fernandes.
Police informed that Derrick was seriously injured in the attack and was shifted to GMC for treatnent while Sarpanch Savio D’Silva who was admitted in a private hospital was discharged and Mowin Fernandes sustained minor injuries.
Cuncolim police have registered an offence against all three brothers under Section 307 attempt to murder and under Section 323 and 325 of IPC.
According to the Complaint filed by Mowin the incident of occured on the last day of Carnival near Velim Church at 8 pm.
The incident occured when some locals participating in the traditional Intruz were proceeding towards Velim Church to the beating drums and treditional music. As there was a large crowd to witness Intruz the road was blocked. At the same time, one Budho Kerkar from Bapsora, Velim who was taking his mother to the doctor in his car got stuck on the road as it was crowded. Kerkar pleaded with Savio to make way for his car. Savio helped Kerkar by making way for his car to proceed.
As Kerkar’s car was passing through the crowd one of the accused Shane Fernades banged Kerkar’s car. Savio and his friends tried to intervene and this agitated Shane who along with his two brothers, Rendon and Alrid caught Savio and stabbed him.
When Mowin and Derrick went to Savio’s rescue the three brothers brutally assaulted both of them with plastic pipes and stabbed Derrick.
Derrick was first shifted to Balli Health Centre and later to Hospicio from where he was shifted to GMC, Bambolim.
