Local fishmongers and fishermen from Verem have voiced strong opposition to the proposed casino project in the area, saying their livelihoods are under threat.
The fishing community, which depends heavily on the waters of the Mandovi River for its daily income, fears that the introduction of a casino could disrupt traditional fishing activities and damage fish breeding zones. Many residents say such changes could severely impact their only source of livelihood.
Fishermen and fish vendors have expressed concern that increased commercial activity along the river could lead to environmental disturbances and reduced fish catch, making it difficult for families to sustain themselves.
Residents have urged authorities to reconsider the proposal, stressing that the survival of Verem’s traditional fishing community should take priority over commercial development. They have called for safeguards to protect the river ecosystem and ensure that local livelihoods are not adversely affected.
