Vessels net solar shrimps

The new fishing season finally began with a bang, with mechanized fishing vessels netting tons of the prized solar shrimp.
Day two of the season saw vessels returning to the Cutbona fishing jetty with tons of the much-sought after solar shrimp. Some of the fishing vessels are believed to have netted two to three tons of the shrimp. One vessel is reported to have netted a whopping 4.25 ton and the catch was caught late last night at Vasco.
Incidentally, a kilogram of solar shrimp was priced at Rs 85 in the wholesale market at the Cutbona fishing jetty.
A smiling president of the Cutbona Boat Owners Union, Antonio Rodrigues said the boats could net sizeable quantity of the solar shrimp in the last two days and prayed to God that the season goes on well. Like many boat owners, Antonio’s fishing vessel netted around 2.5 tons, indicating that the season has turned positive vis-à-vis the solar shrimp.
Though majority of fishing boats from Cutbona could not venture out in the Arabian sea on Sunday – Day one of the fishing season – due to rough conditions at the River Sal mouth at Betul, many vessels ventured out in the wee hours of Monday.
Rodrigues said most of the boats ventured into the Arabian sea at 6 am and returned with the prized catch around noon.
However, many a boat owner were still hoping against hope that the remaining manpower would return back to the jetties from Jharkhand, Orissa and Bihar.
