Vijai Sardesai, chief of the Goa Forward Party, has introduced The Goa (Protection of Rivers) Bill, 2026, proposing a comprehensive framework for the conservation and protection of rivers across the state.
The proposed legislation calls for the creation of a three-tier Goa River Protection Authority to oversee river management and conservation efforts. It also seeks the formal declaration of Protected Rivers and the establishment of River Conservation Zones aimed at safeguarding ecologically sensitive areas.
The Bill proposes stringent penalties to curb pollution and prevent ecological damage, with the objective of preserving the health and sustainability of Goa’s river systems.
The proposed law is intended to strengthen environmental protection measures and ensure long-term conservation of the state’s vital water resources. Further discussions on the Bill are expected in the Assembly.
