Truck owners from Sanvordem have raised serious concerns over the irregular functioning of mining activities in the region, saying the stop-and-start nature of operations is causing heavy financial losses to transporters.
During a meeting of the Sanvordem Truck Owners Association, members stated that mining work frequently begins and halts within short intervals, making it difficult for truck owners to sustain their livelihoods. They explained that restarting vehicles after long periods of inactivity involves significant expenses on repairs, maintenance, permits, insurance, and other compliance requirements.
According to the association, when mining operations stop again after only a few days, transporters are unable to recover their investments, leading to mounting financial strain.
Truck owners also claimed that the government had previously assured them that Green Tax and certain other levies would be waived to support the transport sector. However, they said the promised relief measures have yet to be implemented.
The association has urged authorities to ensure stable and continuous mining operations and to provide the promised tax relief at the earliest. Members warned that if mining activities do not resume in full swing within eight days, they will be forced to launch an agitation.
