Vijai Sardesai Raises Model Code of Conduct Concerns in Goa Assembly Over Ponda By-Poll

Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai on Monday raised concerns in the Goa Legislative Assembly regarding the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct in parts of Ponda and South Goa ahead of the Ponda by-election.

Sardesai referred to a communication from the Election Commission of India addressed to the Chief Secretary of Goa, stating that certain discussions in the Assembly could potentially fall under the purview of the Model Code of Conduct.

He pointed out that deliberations on grants and Legislative Assembly Questions (LAQs) that have financial implications may violate the code if the Model Code of Conduct is in force in the concerned constituencies.

Sardesai sought clarity from the government on the matter and requested a ruling from the Chair to ensure that the proceedings of the House remain in compliance with the Election Commission’s guidelines.
