MARGAO: Independent MLA Vijai Sardessai on Tuesday said the Congress should immediately lead a delegation to the Defence Minister to ensure that congestion at the Dabolim airport is brought to a minimum if the party is sincere in retaining Dabolim as Goa’s lone international airport.
“Congress stand that Mopa can wait is only postponement of the construction of the proposed airport. The Congress should prove to Goans that it is not paying lip service to Dabolim by leading a delegation to Delhi and get the congestion at the airport to its minimum,” he said.
He said the BJP has very clearly shown that it is pro-Mopa and has done nothing to get the Dabolim airport upgraded, especially in respect of parking facility. “And the Congress has belatedly taken a stand that Mopa can be kept on hold. But the Congress has to do something more to win back the confidence of the people that the party is for Dabolim airport. This can be done by leading a delegation to the Defence Minister and get the congestion at Dabolim to a minimum and also shelve Mopa,” he added.
On Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s visit to Fatorda on Friday, Vijai said there should not be any attempt to mix politics with the development of Fatorda constituency. “Parrikar is the Chief Minister of Goa and not of the BJP. I have voters from Fatorda who are tax payers and who have a right to demand development of the constituency,” he asserted.
