MARGAO: Slamming the Chief Minister for various ‘sins of omission and commission’, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai on Saturday has said even though Goa has the most educated Education Minister, questions are raised whether Manohar Parrikar has been able to deliver goods to the people of the State.
The Fatorda MLA was addressing meritorious students, parents and citizens at a felicitation function organised by We For Fatorda at the BPS Club here on Saturday.
“We have a highly educated Education Minister. Yet, the question that is raised is with all the failures around, whether Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has delivered. Goa had in the past had less educated education ministers, but a highly educated education minister has also failed to deliver the goods”, he said.
Vijai took pot shots at the Chief Minister for his decision to change the school timings by taking shelter of the RTE.
“Students, teachers and parents have been put to great hardships. The RTE says that school timings should be decided, taking into account the local conditions”, he said.
He recalled that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar as leader of the opposition had commented that food served as part of Mid-day meal scheme is not fit even for animals.
He asserted that nothing much has changed on the ground vis-à-vis the Mid-day meal scheme after Parrikar assumed power.
In his address, educationist Prabhakar Timble urged the meritorious students not to be just content with the merit, but venture in areas that would help exploit their hidden talents.
“Merit can be measured. But, at the same time, what is important is intelligence and knowledge. There’s a need to acquire skills”, Prabhakar Timble added.
